About the Summit:
The objective of the 2010 NW Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit (NW Summit) is to provide an annual executive level forum to foster the ongoing development and implementation of a collaborative, regional energy strategy that will sustain the vitality of the industrial manufacturing sector in the Northwest. This one day summit will bring together leading decision makers from industry, government, utilities, associations and academia from Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The NW Summit is a follow-up to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) hosted NW Industrial Energy Efficiency Summit that was held last February in Portland. The 2009 NW Summit was the second in a series of regional industrial energy efficiency forums hosted by DOE in its efforts to establish the foundations for a national commitment to reduce industrial energy intensity.
Goals of the Summit:
- To reconfirm a regional commitment to industrial energy efficiency in the Northwest that was established at the 1st Summit held last February.
- To establish direction, priorities and commitment for strategic actions that will support achieving a significant increase in industrial energy efficiency.

Participants will participate in facilitated work sessions designed to prioritize and develop commitment to actionable strategies. The work sessions will be broken into two categories, with State specific sessions in the morning and “key” manufacturing sector specific in the afternoon. The state specific work sessions for each state (Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana) will explore key industries, energy consumption, direction, potential energy savings, barriers and collaborative solutions within their state. The key manufacturing sector specific work sessions will review total energy consumption within the sector, the future of the sector, potential savings, barriers and collaborative solutions. The “key” manufacturing sectors will include: Pulp and Paper, Food Processing, Electronics, Chemicals/Refineries and others to be identified. The lunch session will feature an energy related keynote speaker (to be identified soon). Immediately following the manufacturing sector work sessions a Summit Summary session will review key themes discussed and identify next steps. A Closing Reception will immediately follow the summary session, providing opportunity for participants to share perspectives and impressions of the day’s discussions with fellow executives.
